Synopsis
Curtain Call the Musical is the story of a group of kids who, under the tutelage of a colorful team of teachers, not only learn the nitty gritty of putting on a musical stage show, but also experience its behind-the-scenes fun & foibles, trials & tribulations, disappointments & joy. Yet when the show’s lead actor is injured and unable to play the role only hours before opening night, the fate of her fellow cast members—their devotion to weeks of rehearsals and to each other—hang in the balance as lifelong lessons are learned. It’s not just practicing lines, lyrics and dance steps. It’s teamwork, competition, and the friendships forged in a journey that inspires all those it touches.
For its cast, and audience, the adventure begins before the curtain rises.
Features
• Curtain Call, the Musical is a full-length, fully-original production,
created to be performed by children, about children—their world.
• Economical—simple to stage, wardrobe, and prop for any budget.
• 19 songs in pop and traditional show-tune styles with a fully-orchestrated music score for playback and lead sheets for piano.
• Lyrics easy to learn and in a key the average child can sing.
• Appropriate for ages 8-18 to perform—all ages to enjoy.
• Accommodates 18 to 30+ cast members, grades 3-12, and having wide-ranging skill levels—with the older children playing the adult roles.
• Not just a line, but a ‘spotlight moment’ for 18 of those cast members.
• With simple name changes, the show's gender-neutral dialogue easily accommodates dual roles and typically greater female turnout.
• Ideal for summer camp programs.
• Unlike fantasy shows (e.g., Little Mermaid, Frozen, and others), the plot and characterizations of Curtain Call are grounded in the day-to-day, life experiences and emotional landscape of the children who perform it.
• As such, Curtain Call has served the desires of parents, community, theatre, and their family audiences looking for fresh, relevant content with sound and lasting values.
• Ideal for the very impressionable, yet still underserved, 'tween' market.
• Gender-neutral appeal—not skewed to content and leading roles that rely upon on archetypes.
• Illuminates that 'Aha!' moment when a child realizes they are not alone—that the gift of true friendship makes any journey not just possible, but better.
In sum
Curtain Call opens on a group of hometown kids preparing to put on a show—a show about what it takes to put on a show—and by the time the curtain falls, they've 'brought down the house.'
Curtain Call the Musical is an anthem to children's musical theatre.
